As if chemistry, biology and calculus aren’t foreign enough, students now
have the opportunity to travel to another country to study abroad.
The Center for International Education is offering a Rotary Scholarship to
any student interested in pursuing his or her studies in another country.
Students do not have to meet a certain grade point average, but there are
certain requirements for eligibility. Students must demonstrate good
leadership skills and have a solid academic background.
“It is the perfect opportunity for students to travel abroad and experience
life in another culture before graduating,” said Elizabeth Gregor,
coordinator for the Center for International Education.
The Rotary Scholarship is presented to an individual in the Knoxville
district who meets the necessary requirements. In addition, the individual
must be a junior, senior or graduate student.
Interested and eligible students must pick up an application at the Center
for International Education before the April 17, or they can call the
Center at 974-3177 and ask to speak to Gregor.
Students can choose the countries that appeal to them from a provided list.
The candidate chosen can travel to either an English or non-English
speaking country where he or she will live for a year while engaging in his
or her studies.
Last year Ken Baron, assistant director for the Arts & Sciences advising
center, was chosen as the Rotary Scholar, and he spent the year in London.
He is also available for more information about the event.
The Rotary Club pays for all expenses including food, lodging, and travel
fees for the year.
