the University of Tennessee’s International House is the place for you,
especially if you are a starving artist.
A wonderful display of artwork created by the hands of American and foreign
UT students is on exhibit at the International House. Beginning Thursday
and through the end of this semester, students will have a chance to sample
international artistry — unique paintings, sketches and drawings.
The plans for the exhibition were reviewed and approved by I-House Director
Joe Flory six months ago when he formed an art smart committee to help him
proceed with the plans. However, Flory gives total credit and recognition
to Cindy Spangler from the Ewing Gallery.
“She is the artist who made this possible. All I did was form the
committee,” Flory said.
Thanks to the efforts of both Flory and Spangler, American students can
gain insight and develop a deeper appreciation for the talent and imagination
of their international peers whose art adorns three different sections of
the International House. Paintings deck the hallways, Japanese prints line
the walls of the living room, and unique drawings are displayed in the lower
level of the house.
All students are welcome and encouraged to see the exhibit.
“The International House is a good place for students to exhibit
works, and I think students really appreciate it,” Spangler said.
Indeed it is, and anyone can display his or her artistic abilities at
the I-House. Photography, sketches and paintings are welcome. Flory is currently
interested in works created by American students that include an international
theme.
