Teachers, cancel all tests tomorrow. Do not assign homework, and ditch the
pop quizzes.
Students, tell your Chemistry teacher you understand what he is talking
about. Go to class, and pay attention.
Why? Wednesday, March 4th, is Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Random Acts of Kindness Day is part of Wellness Week and this is the third
year the University of Tennessee will be celebrating the special day .
“It is an opportunity for students to show kindness to community agencies
and fellow students,” said Rosa Emory Thomas from Student Health Services.
“For the nice things we do for no reason at all, the best of humanity will
bloom.”
There are several opportunities available for students to help honor Random
Acts of Kindness Day. Team Vols will be sponsoring special projects like
the Love Kitchen, Meals On Wheels, Nature Walk and activities benefiting
the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Knoxville. Participation is encouraged and any
interested students can contact the TeamVols office at 974-8481.
Have exams and term papers consumed your free time? Here are some simple
suggestions provided by Thomas for students to get involved in Random Acts
of Kindness Day: smile at strangers, pick up trash on campus; tell your
friends how much you appreciate them, take flowers or goodies to a janitor
or someone who does not receive much recognition, open a door for someone,
make a dedication on the radio station for people who always smile, find
good in something and praise it, plant a tree, write a letter to one or all
of your teachers explaining the impact he or she has made on your life,
drop extra change in a meter for the next person who will park there, and
last but not least, give someone your parking space — the biggest test of
kindness on campus.
