There are numerous opportunities for getting involved with The Daily Beacon, the campus newspaper serving the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus and surrounding community. The paper is editorially independent and is entirely student written, produced and managed.

Daily Beacon (Advertising)

Advertising Production

Design and create print and digital advertisements and promotional materials for clients of The Daily Beacon

Media Sales

Develop and present print and digital advertising campaigns for clients of The Daily Beacon; sell clients on the basic concepts of advertising and promotion

Daily Beacon (Editorial)

Beat Editors

Available “Beats”:

Arts and Culture, News, Photography, Sports, Student Life

 

Plan, coordinate and assign articles, assist writers, enforce deadlines in support of the assigned beat                                                           

Cartoonist

Editorial: Work closely with editorial staff to create a political or social message relating to current events and/or personalities in the University, regional or national community

 

Comic Strip: Create a sequence of images arranged in panels, depicting a humorous narrative

Columnists
Write intelligent, well-organized and thought-provoking columns once per week


Copy Editors

Read and edit Daily Beacon stories and cutlines in preparation for publication.

Design Editors

Design and create graphical presentation of editorial content for The Daily Beacon, including news articles, photography, and other graphic images           

Editorial Production

Create and prepare graphical presentation of editorial content for The Daily Beacon, including news articles, photography, and other graphic images

Online Editors

 Publish The Daily Beacon’s content online; create and manage unique content for www.utdailybeacon.com          

Photographers

Capture photographic images of newsworthy events surrounding the campus community, student life and activities and sporting events           

Writers

Conduct interviews with sources and write stories to inform the campus community.
